5 Foods Should Be Avoided During Pregnancy

Below are some types of food that should be avoided during pregnancy due to the severe risk of causing health problems:

1. Raw meat

Raw or undercooked meat can contain the Toxoplasma parasite, which is dangerous for pregnant women because it can cause infection in the fetus, even if the pregnant woman does not experience any symptoms.

Therefore, if pregnant women want to eat meat, including minced meat and sausages, ensure the meat is thoroughly cooked.

Consuming raw eggs and foods containing raw eggs risk exposure to Salmonella bacteria.

Although it does not directly impact the fetus, Salmonella infection causes pregnant women to experience indigestion characterized by diarrhea and vomiting.

Make sure during pregnancy, you only eat well-cooked eggs.

3. Fish that contain mercury

It is undeniable that fish has many benefits for pregnant women. However, some fish contain a lot of mercury, which can negatively impact pregnancy.

Tuna, mackerel, swordfish, and shark are examples of fish that are not recommended during pregnancy. This is because a large amount of mercury in these fish can interfere with the development of the fetal nerve.
